Maulana Fazl stopped from going to US, Swati given conditional permission

DOHA/ISLAMABAD: Head of Kashmir Committee and leader of Jamiat-e-Ulema Islam (F) Maulana Fazl ur Rehman was stopped from coming to US. While Federal Minister for Science and Technology Azam Kahn Swati was given conditional permission to come to US.

However JUI-F spokesman said that Maulana Fazl ur Rehman is in Pakistan and he would be traveling to US on Wednesday.

According to media reports a US Sate Department official on the condition of anonymity confirmed that Maulana Fazl ur Rehman was stopped at Doha Airport on the say of US officials and was not given a boarding pass to proceed on a flight to US to attend the annual OIC Coordination Conference being held in New York.

According to US officials he case of Maulana Fazl is being reviewed and the decision in this regard would be made soon. US authorities say that they are concerned over Maulana’s pro Taliban statements due to which he was stopped from proceeding to US.

The Pakistani embassy in Washington is in touch with the US officials and has expressed its concern over the situation and have stressed that the Maulana be allowed to proceed to US.

On the other hand JUI-F spokesman Maulana Amjad refuting the reports said that Maulana Fazl is very much in Pakistan and he would be going to US today (Wednesday) morning to attend the OIC summit. He said that reports regarding stopping Maulana Fazl at Doha airport are incorrect.

Meanwhile Federal Minister for Science and Technology Azam Kahn Swati was given conditional permission to come to US. Sources told that Azam Khan Swati would not be given protocol of a federal minister and he would be screened at the airport upon arrival in US.

On the other hand AJK Prime Minister Sardar Attique Khan has arrived in News York to attend the OIC summit. He was received by Kashmiris living in US. Speaking on the occasion Sardar Attique said that US authorities must be under some kind of misunderstanding regarding Maulana Fazl and hopefully he would be attending the summit.

Meanwhile the issue of Maulana Fazl being stopped from going to US also came up in the senate session,

JUI condemned the issuing of wrong reports by a certain media group regarding Maulana Fazl and said that the Maulana is in Pakistan and the media should be careful while transmitting news.

Senator Haji Ghulam Ali of JUI-F told the senate on Tuesday that Federal Minister for Science and Technology Azam Kahn Swati and Maulana Fazl are in Pakistan and the news of them being detained at Doha airport are incorrect. He said that a certain media group is busy in character assassination of national leaders. JUI-F secretary general Ghafoor Haideri said that electronic media aired false stories regarding Maulana Fazl and Azam Khan Swati he said that such false news being broadcasted on national TV has damaged the privilege of national politicians and the media needs to cleans itself of elements that are trying to create anarchy.
