Curfew continues for 4th day in Kashmir

Srinagar: Indefinite curfew continued for the 4th day Wednesday in Srinagar, other major towns and Tehsil headquarters in Kashmir as a precautionary measure.

Curfew was imposed on September 12 from 0500 hrs after violent separatist protestors set on fire Power Development Department (PDD)and Crime Branch headquarters in Srinagar on Eid-ul-Fitr day on September 11. The authorities blamed chairman of the ‘moderate’ Hurriyat Conference (HC) Mirwaiz Moulvi Omar Farooq for violence and registered three cases against him in three different police stations in the city. He demanded impartial inquiry into the incident. The situation worsened on September 13 after lakhs of people took to streets in all parts of the Kashmir valley against the reported desecration of holy Quran and clashed with security forces and state police personnel, resulting in death of 17 people, including a police constable, and injuries to about 200 others
