Islamabad/Peshawar: Eid-ul-Fitr is being celebrated in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Friday after the announcement of Shawwal moon sighting by religious elders of Peshwar’s Mosque Qasim Ali Khan. While the rest of the country including AJK would celebrate Eid on Saturday.

After the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Government’s announcement to celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr on Friday, once again the nation’s dream to celebrate Eid on the same day across the country has been shattered
Meanwhile the rest of the country would observe Eid with religious fervor and enthusiasm on Saturday.
Based on the testimonies gathered from the zonal committees regarding sighting of Shawal moon received from across the country, the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee presided over by Mufti Muneeb ur Rehman announced that Shawal moon was not sighted in Quetta, Karachi and Lahore and Islamabad on Thursday therefore the Eid-ul-Fitr would be observed on Saturday.
Meanwhile Special Eid prayers would be offered across the country and the faithful after completing a month of fasting would pray for the prosperity of the country besides extending wholesome wishes for friends and family. This year Eid would be celebrated with simplicity due to the devastations caused by the floods
In Islamabad, the largest Eid congregation would be held at Faisal Mosque and in Rawalpindi the largest Eid congregation would be held at Liaqat Bagh while the same would be observed at Badshahi mosque and Memon mosque in Lahore and Karachi respectively.
Meanwhile, security arrangements have been further tightened in the entire country to avert any untoward incident on Eid-ul-Fitr.
To this effect, police and law enforcement agencies have made special security arrangements at different public places, highways, big shopping malls and markets.
Heavy contingents of police and rangers have been deployed at all sensitive places in the Federal Capital.
Police would be patrolling during Eid prayers outside all the mosques to avoid any untoward incident in this regard.
Eid ul-Fitr would also be celebrated in Azad Kashmir with religious fervour. The largest Eid congregation would be held at Muzaffarabad University Ground.
The federal government had already announced three days public holidays on the occasion of Eid ul Fitr.
