NEW DELHI: Pakistan pacer Mohammad Aamir has reportedly been offered a lighter sentence in exchange of information on his tainted team-mates Salman Butt and Mohammad Asif.
The Daily Mail has reported that the 18-year-old Amir can avoid a life ban if he gives evidence against Salman Butt and Asif.
Former England cricketers Mike Atherton and Nasser Hussain have also been batting for the young cricketer , saying that he was ordered by the skipper and senior pace bowler Asif to fix the spots.
ICC CEO Haroon Lorgat too said Aamir’s age should be a factor in the spot fixing probe. He said, “In my own honest personal view, yes, I think age would come into account in these matters but that is something the independent tribunal will have to decide upon.”
Meanwhile, Aamir’s family has said that the young cricketer is ready to swear by the Koran to prove his innocence. Aamir’s brother Naveed condemned the fixing allegations calling them false and claimed there was a conspiracy to destroy the rising pacer’s career.
