LAKI MARWAT: Seventeen people including children and nine policemen have been killed and thirty nine others sustained serious injuries as a result of suicide bomb attack at a police station in Laki Marwat city of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa here on Monday.
According to police sources, an alleged bomber rammed his explosive-packed vehicle into the backside wall of Laki City Police Station, destroying a part of the premises and some other nearby buildings including Laki City Hospital. Severe volley of gunshots were rung following the suicide attack at the site. At least 45 police personnel were present at the police station at the time of blast.
According to eyewitnesses, school-going kids and passers-by also became victims of the blast besides police personnel
14 bodies including five police personnel and four school going girls, have been retrieved from the rubble thus far.
DPO Laki Marwat confirming the blast as suicide said that at least seventeen persons including nine police personnel lost their lives. He stated that the suicide attacker attempted to hit the explosive vehicle with wall of the police station building, resultingly it blew up with a bang and razed some parts of the building.
Civil administration and high rank officials rushed to the site and started relief activities on the blast site. The forces put security cordon around the blast and erected pickets around the city. On the other hand rescue workers feared for more causalities as several people are buried under the debris.
