Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani has said that the foreign aid would be distributed without discrimination among all the flood affected people haling from four provinces, Azad Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan.
Addressing the meeting of Counsel of Common Interest (CCI) on Monday, the PM said that more than 20 million people including 3.5 million children were affected by the devastative flooding across the country besides losses worth billion of dollars.
Chief Ministers of Gilgit-Baltistan and four provinces, Prime Minister Azad Kashmir also participated in the meeting of CCI, held with Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani in the chair.
Prime Minister assessing the statistics held that more than 1000 bridges, 4000 KM roads and standing crops of 1.3 million acres were washed away in the massive floods. He said that first priority is to evacuate the flood hit people, trapped in the areas and than rehabilitate them in the concerned areas. Pak army, Navy and Air Force are working for the rescue and rehabilitation of the affected people.
He stated that seventy seven (77) countries provided aid and assistance with cash money as a donation, which would be distributed without discrimination among the flood hit people. He further said that some four billion rupees have been collected in the premier’s fund while relief funds of provincial governments and NGOs are also collecting funds in this regard. World Bank, International Monitory Fund (IMF) and other donors agencies promised for their assistance for the affected people while United States, China, and Saudi Arabia are also providing aid to Pakistan, he remarked.
The PM directed the provincial governments for transparently distributing the compensational amount among the affectees and asked all the institutions to remain patient. To meet the economic requirements the economic priorities would be restructured, he held. He was of the view that they would be successful with the support of provinces and all stake holders in the reconstruction and rehabilitation of the affected people.
