The U.S. Embassy in Islamabad has warned the public in Pakistan about an e-mail trick targeting people in Pakistan. This particular trick promises the recipient an immigrant visa and a free trip to the United States to take up permanent residence.

The e-mail claims that the U.S. Government has authorized 75 immigrant visas to Xiamen Air and that the e-mail recipient is one of the “lucky” winners of “our 3rd annual U.S. Visa lottery program.” Recipients are asked to respond to an e-mail address located in the Czech Republic and to pay a substantial “processing” fee.

“The U.S. Embassy wants to warn people that this e-mail and all e-mails such as this one, are an attempt to defraud Pakistani citizens. Anyone receiving such an e-mail needs to know that it is completely false. The U.S. Embassy in Islamabad encourages anyone who receives such an e-mail to not respond, because it is likely the perpetrators of this e-mail trick are seeking to steal identities and/or money from the public”, US embassy spokesman said.
