Governor Punjab Suleman Taseer has said the devastation caused by the worst floods of the history is beyond our perception and the accurate assessment of the damages can be carried out after flood water recedes.
He said this while talking to media men here Saturday on his way back to Lahore from Muzaffargarh.
He told the entire state machinery was busy in helping out to flood affectees round the clock adding food items, clothes and medical facilities were being provided to the flood stricken people in relief camps.
He held he did not believe in uncalled for criticism adding he was satisfied with the performance of government of Punjab over its relief efforts and endeavors for rehabilitation of flood affectees.
He went on to say only two leaders could not implement the proposal floated by Mian Nawaz Sharif for constitution of commission to monitor the utilization of relief funds. Taking the provinces on board was imperative on this count, he added.
He dispelled the impression that constitution of the commission had been blocked.
Federal government would provide Rs 12000 per head initially under Benazir Income Support Program to those whose homes had been destroyed in the flash floods.
UN had declared ongoing floods in the country more disastrous than tsunami, he remarked.
He also voiced satisfaction over the relief aid extended by UN for the flood victims saying President Asif Ali Zardari had succeeded in diverting the attention of UN to the damages caused by floods in Pakistan.
