Muttiah Muralitharan has become the first-ever bowler to take 800 Test wickets, reaching the milestone on the last ball of his career as Sri Lanka closed in on victory in the first Test against India.

Muralitharan claimed the last wicket of India’s second innings when he had Pragyan Ojha caught at slip by Mahela Jayawardene, ending India’s stubborn innings on 338.

That left Sri Lanka with a target of 95 runs to win, with more than a session to play.
Muralitharan needed eight wickets in his final test to reach 800. After five in the first innings, and one on Wednesday, he moved to 799 with the early scalp of Harbhajan Singh on Thursday, but had to wait until the last ball to reach the mark.
