Former Senator and Central Leader of Balochistan National Party (BNP), Habib Jalib Baloch was shot dead here on Wednesday by unidentified armed men.
Prime Minister, Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani had directed Chief Minister Balochistan, Aslam Raisani to order judicial inquiry into the murder of Habib Jalib Baloch.
According to police, three gunmen opened fire on BNP’s leader, when he was reading newspaper in front of shop of his brother, Rehmat Ullah in Moosa Colony.
The leader of BNP succumbed to his wounds on the way to the hospital. Attackers after committing the murder, managed to escape from the scene.
The area is under grip of high tension following incident of shooting and leaders and workers of BNP gathered near Governor House with the body of their leader.
They wanted to protest in front of Governor House, but the police did not allow them and carried out shelling.
The workers of BNP and relatives of late Habib Jalib Baloch chanted anti-government slogans and blocked Jinnah Road in front of Civil Hospital.
After the tragic death of BNP’s leader, all business hubs and shops have been closed and complete shutter down observed in the city.
The infuriated protestors blocked RCD National Highway while Karachi-Quetta Highway was also closed. The protestors also blocked Jinnah Road by burning tires.
The protestors carried out ransacking on Suriab road and damaged window panes of two banks and Excise office.
There was complete shutter down in several areas of the province, including Mastung, Noshaki, Dera Murad Jamali and other areas.
Educational institutions have been closed for three days in the city while Balochistan University closed for two days. BNP announced 40 day mourning and three-day strike.
CCPO Quetta Ghulam Shabbir while talking to media men told that Habib Jalib has been attacked in the past and he was offered security but he refused.
He said that four teams have been formed to probe the killing of leader of BNP. He appealed to relatives of Habib Jalib and workers of BNP to cooperate with the police.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister, Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani telephone CM Balochistan, Aslam Raisani and directed the judicial inquiry of the murder of Habib Jalib.
Strongly condemning the murder of leader of BNP, the prime minister said that he (Habib) was a great leader.
Quaid Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz Mian Nawaz Sharif, Amir Jamat Islami Munawar Hassan, Chairperson Pakistan-Tehrik-e-Insaf Imran Khan, Quaid Mutahida Qaumi Movement Altaf Hussain and other political leaders have strongly condemned the brutal murder of Habib Jalib.
It may be mentioned that Habib Jalib was the secretary general of BNP besides being a senior advocate at Supreme Court of Pakistan (SCP).
He has also served as member senate and an active member of Baloch Students Organization.
