Troops open fire on protesters in Sopore, one martyred

In occupied Kashmir, Indian troops, in their fresh act of state terrorism, martyred one more innocent Kashmiri youth in Sopore town.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the youth identified as Bilal Ahmed Wani, 22, was killed when the troops of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) opened fire on protesters in the town. The killing came barely 3-days after two youth were shot dead by the CRPF men in the town.

Witnesses told newsmen that hundreds of people took to the streets demanding stern punishment for the CRPF troopers involved in the killing of Shakeel Ahmed and Firdous Ahmed, who were gunned down by the CRPF men on Friday. “As the protesters tried to march ahead the CRPF men resorted to indiscriminate firing injuring Bilal Ahmed Wani son of Muhammad Maqbool Wani of Kralteng critically,” they added.

They said that Wani was rushed to a Srinagar hospital for specialized treatment where doctors declared him brought dead. “The deceased was not the part of the procession. He was on way to a Masjid to offer prayers,” the locals said.

The Block Medical Officer Sopore, Dr Fouzia told newsmen that Wani had received bullet injury in his neck.

As soon as the word about Wani’s death spread in the town thousands of people, including women and children, staged massive protests. They raised anti-India and pro-liberation slogans.

The deceased was working as a daily wager in the Public Health Engineering department and was lone brother of four sisters.

Meanwhile, another youth, Jehangir Ahmed Shah son of Ghulam Nabi Shah sustained critical injuries when a teargas canister hit him on his leg. He was referred to a hospital in Srinagar, where his condition was stated to be critical.
