A seventeen member larger bench of the Supreme Court headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhary will hear today petitions filed against the 18th amendment.
The apex court, in this regard, has issued notices to the parties. According to details, the Supreme Court has issued notices to Advocate on record Mehmood A. Sheikh and government lawyers Dr. Abdul Basit , Raja Muhammad Ibrahim Satti , Masood Chishti , Barrister Baacha , Waseem Sajjad , Sardar Mehmood Ghazi and Attorney General Maulvi Anwar-ul-Haq to appear before the larger bench on May 24.
The Supreme Court will resume hearing of NRO implementation case on Tuesday and the apex court has summoned Law Minister Babar Awan to appear before the bench headed by Justice Nasir ul Mulk.
According to sources, the government has thrashed out a legal strategy to defend the 18th amendment in the apex court. The government, under this strategy, will present its stance regarding supremacy of the parliament and its discretion to do legislation.
According to the sources, Senator Raza Rabbani will also appear before the apex court as it has also sought written reply from the Constitutional Reforms Committee in the case. Chairman of the committee Raza Rabbani will submit the reply before the larger bench.
