The Supreme Court (SC) orders on abolition of oil tankers parking from residential areas of Karachi including Shireen Jinnah Colony and Clifton Block one has not been implemented on the second day after the issuance of orders.

SC had ordered for arranging temporary parking of oil tankers on KPT plot till the construction of permanent parking for them

The court orders could not be implemented even after lapse of 24 hours and the oil tankers were still there in the residential areas of Keemari and Clifton and on the major roads.

Oil tankers association was of the view that shifting of oil tankers to the plot provided by KPT was not possible being the parking uneven therein. .

Total number of registered oil tankers being used in transporting oil products stand at 14000 and at least 7000 among them operate from Karachi but no parking terminal is constructed for them.

Illegal parking of these tankers has created a lot of mess in Clifton Block-1. Ladies fear to go out as gangs of truck drivers and their helpers gaze them badly and pass unavoidable remarks. This was one of the posh area of Karachi and became more beautiful and tourist attraction since the installation of KPT fountain. Residents of Block-1 bought their properties/apartments in costly prices and because of this mess, which has been created by the illegal oil tankers, devastating effect on the value of the properties have been made. People who were dreaming to live there now do not even want to come there. People are no longer taking apartments on rent there and the property value has gone down drastically. It is requested to Government to clear this unwanted mess from the area so that resident who spent their hard earned money buying apartments there could live peacefully.
