Attabad lake affectees end protest after Govt assurance of compensation

Affectees of Attabad lake after successful negotiations with Hunza Administration concluded their protest sit and went back in the relief camps.

DCO Hunza talking to media said that district administration held successful negotiations with the agitated affectees of Attabad lake and took seven days time to compensate all the affectees of Attabad accidental lake and land sliding victims in Hunza valley.

On the assurance from district administration all the affected people of Hunza returned to relief camps.

The affectees had been protesting against the government apathy towards them. They demonstrated a protest sit in before Nine-Zero in Hunza and threatened to go to the accidental lake, if the government didn’t compensate them.

It was pertaining to mention that Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gillani has visited Attabad on Friday but didn’t announced relief package for the affectees and directed only the administration to formulate report to compensate the victims, as a result affected people become agitated against the government and vowed to drown in the lake against irresponsibility of the government.

Meanwhile Helicopter rescue service was also restored today (Saturday) with a break of One day as after Prime Minister’s visit of the area helicopter rescue service for the affectees was suspended.

While water of accidental lake is only six feet below from the spillway and it is expected that water outflow from Attabad lake would be started within next three to four days.
