Violence envelopes Karachi: death toll rises to 35

Paramilitary soldiers standing alert to avoid any untoward incident after the target killing incidents in the metropolis.

The spate of target killing is continuing in the provincial metropolis with ten more persons gunned down on Thursday morning, taking the death toll to thirty five during the last three days. Over two dozens of people also sustained injuries in different incidents.

Those killed also included workers of Awami National Party, Muhajir Qaumi Movement and Jamaat-e-Islam.

In the ruthless acts of scot-free killings, unscrupulous elements also torched two offices of political parties and seven vehicles including one that of KESC.

Tension has gripped the entire metropolis while rangers and police are patrolling the areas declared sensitive by the authorities.

On Thursday, unknown persons shot dead two persons on Abu al Hasan road in Abbas town. According to sources, the victims were members of the Awami National Party. However police has not confirmed their affiliation.

In Landhi 37-B, unknown armed persons gunned down an eighteen-year boy while injuring another. A corpse of a twenty-four year person was recovered from Sarjani town who was shot dead after abduction.

In another incident, armed motorcyclists killed an eighteen year old boy near B.R.Society’s cemetery in Tehmuria buffer zone. Firing on Qasba chowk claimed the life of a thirty two year man while the firing of unknown assailants in Malir Moin Abad killed a forty year old man. In Mari Pur area, unknown persons persecuted one person to death and in the area of airport, one person was shot injured.

In a separate incident of firing, unknown armed persons shot injured two patrolling police personnel near Abdullah College.

Meanwhile, different areas of the metropolis including Shah Faisal Colony, Pirabad, Korangi, Landhi, Aurangi town, Pir Abad, Model Colony, Quaid Abad are highly tense and intermittent firing is continuing in the affected areas. All this has restricted the residents to their homes.

In the area of Shareh Noor Jehan, unknown miscreants made hostage a Sepoy of Naval Headquarters and subjected him to persecution and later his motorcycle was set on fire. In Nabi Baksh area of Garden, unknown assailants gunned down Moharar of the police station. One sixty-year-old person was also shot injured in Gulshan Iqbal.
