No new operation in FATA: Pak told US

US delegation led by General James Logan Jones (Retired), National Security Advisor, United States, called on Chief of Army Staff, General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani at General Headquarters on Wednesday.

The visiting dignitaries remained with the Chief of Army Staff for some time and discussed the matters of mutual interest.

Military Sources informed that Head of the ISI Lt General Ahmed Pasha was also present. Host of issues came under discussion like regional, security situation, war against terrorism intelligence sharing and possible operation in Afghanistan, dialogue process with Taliban in depth.

Sources say that talks for action against Haqani network were also made during the course of the meeting.

On the other hand, sources informed that no new operation will be started in FATA by Pakistan till the present is completed until its logical end tooth and nail.

The IDPS who are still in a quandary must go home safely first, reconstruction and rehabilitation of the affected areas while no decision will be taken against national security while ground realities will be kept in mind regarding initiation of new operation.

Overall security situation in the region was also discussed.

It was told in the meeting that Pakistan has legitimate interests in promoting peace and stability in Afghanistan and urged that US must remain sensitive to Pakistan’s core national interests and concerns.

It was further told that militancy could only be eliminated by greater intelligence sharing.
