President issues directives for immediate construction of small dams in Sindh

President Asif Ali Zardari has issued directives for monitoring of all mega development projects through satellite, ensuring release of funds for construction of mega projects and construction of small dams immediately in Sindh.

President Asif Ali Zardari issued these directives while presiding over a high level meeting held here Tuesday in Chief Minister House with reference to mega projects.

Planning Commission deputy chairman Dr Nadim ul Haq, Wapda chairman Shakeel Durrani, MD PEPCO, Muhammad Khalid, communication minister Arbab Alamgir, federal ministers Sayed Naveed Qamar, Syed Khurshid Shah and others attended the meeting.

Giving the briefing to the president chairman Wapda Shakil Durrani told feasibility report was in the final stages of preparation in connection with construction of Nai Bahara dam as part of series of 14 small dams.

The president directed feasibility report be worked out forthwith and construction work on dam be initiated while federal government would ensure release of funds.

MD PEPCO Muhammad Khalid briefed the president about the steps taken for overcoming energy crisis.

Talking to the journalists after the meeting, communication minister Arbab Alamgir told 15 mega projects were under construction in Sindh which would cost Rs over 50 billion. These projects would be completed within two years.

President has issued directives for initiation of M-9 project expeditiously in connection with construction of double road from Karachi to Hyderabad. Work on M-9 project would soon be started, he hinted.
