At least 14 people including DSP Kalachi, Iqbal Khan Marwat and his gunman were killed and 17 others were injured in a remote control blast here in Kalachi area. The injured included the son of DSP Iqbal Khan.
According to details, DSP Kalachi, Iqbal Khan Marwat was going to his office from his residence with his two gunmen when his vehicle was targeted in the area of Najafabad with a remote control device installed by unknown terrorists on a cycle.
As the result of the blast, the vehicle of DSP was badly damaged and 14 people including the DSP lost their lives on the spot. The deceased included DSP Iqbal Marwat, Muhammad Younus, Muhammad Rashid, Younus Irshad, Mushtaq, Sabir, Shahzeb, Muhammad Sattar, Insaf Hussain and gunmen of late DSP.
6 police officials were in the vehicle at the time of the blast, said police officials.
According to Bomb Disposal Squad, 4 to 5 kilogram explosive material was used in the blast and it was planted on the carrier of the cycle. The police officials said that terrorists used new strategy in the blast.
According to eyewitnesses, the sound of the blast was heard from faraway areas and its intensity was so strong that it damaged windowpanes of nearby buildings.
Meanwhile, Incharge Emergency Department of District Hospital DI Khan, Dr. Nasir while talking to media men has confirmed the shifting of 12 dead bodies in the hospital.
He said that the deceased include DSP, three children and a woman while two injured were in critical condition.
After the blast, the relieve teams have reached to the affected area and shifted the dead bodies and injured to the District Headquarter Hospital Dera where emergency was declared. After the blast, the people have reached in the hospital.
The security of the city has been beefed up and strict checking is underway at the entry and exit points of the city.
It is important to mention here that it is the second incident of terrorism in DI Khan within a week as a blast was occurred at the checkpost of Faqeerani Gate four days ago.
President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani have strongly condemned the blast.
In his message, the president said that the government would deal the terrorists strictly and they (terrorists) would find no place to hide.
The prime minister in his message said that terrorists want to destabilize the county by their cowardly act of terrorism but they would not succeed in their nefarious designs. He sought report from Interior Minister Rehman Malik.
The president and the prime minister while expressing their sorrow and grief over loss of precious lives, have directed the authorities concerned to provide all possible medical treatment to injured.
Federal and Provincial Minister, Speaker and Deputy Speaker of National Assembly, Chairman and Deputy Chairman of Senate, Quaid PML-N Mian Nawaz Sharif, Amir Jamaat-e-Islami Munawar Hassan, Chief PTI Imran Khan and other political leaders of the country have also condemned the blast in strong words.
