The Red Cross has temporarily closed its offices in southwest Pakistan after receiving a threatening call from separatists.
Spokesman Amanullah Rind said the International Committee of the Red Cross has two offices in Quetta, the capital of Balochistan province. The staff includes 27 Pakistanis and three foreigners.
Rind did not give details about the threat. Separatists have waged a low-level insurgency in oil-rich Baluchistan for years to demand more autonomy and a greater share of income from the area’s natural resources.
Last year, they kidnapped an American who was working for the United Nations refugee agency and threatened to behead him. He was freed after two months.
