Affectees of Hunza artificial lake start shifting to safer areas

The people from surrounding areas of the artificial lake formed in Hunza Nagar have started shifting to other areas for fear of bursting of lake while Army Chief Gen Ashfaq Parvez Kayani has directed army engineers and FWO authorities to gear up their relief and rescue activities to ensure safety of life of the people in the event of breaking up of lake.
Army Chief also visited artificial lake which had come into existence in the area of Atta Abad.
The people of the area were of the view that as many as 20000 population would be affected if the lake bursts. Water level in the lake is rising continuously which will cause damage to the near by villages.
Gilgit Baltistan administration has stamped marks on different place and had started providing advance information to protect the people against any disaster.
People told that over 200 schools would be affected by bursting of lake and water inflow could start from the lake after May, 29.
The authorities were of the opinion if the engineers cold not succeed in making more spill ways for drainage of water from the lake then this spate of flood water could reach Tarbela dam.
