Faisal Shehzad’s arrest: Malik demands formal US request for domestic investigation

Interior Minister Rehman Malik has said that Pakistan has taken necessary steps immediately after the arrest of Faisal Shehzad an accused of New York’s Time Square bomb conspiracy however for further development they needed formal information and request from US government.

In an interview with British News Agency here on Wednesday the Interior Minister said that he held a meeting with US Ambassador to Pakistan Anne W Peterson after the arrest of the accused of Time Square conspiracy adding that they have offered unconditional cooperation to the US in this regard.

The Interior Minister said that they have identified the family of Faisal Shehzad and they are monitoring them however they have not arrested. According to Interior Minister they have collected the information including mobile numbers, bank accounts however they needed evidences and further information to take solid action against them.

Faisal Shehzad’s father is a retired Air Vice Marshal and most of his family members have been working on high posts in Pakistan and it is a matter of concerns that the terrorists are influencing them, he added.

He said that he could not comment on this issue until the investigations were completed because it could be a conspiracy against Pakistan. Rehman Malik further said that Faisal Shahzad had married from Mardan while his father in law had been residing in Saudi Arabia and then in 90s he shifted to US and gat nationality there.

To a question regarding Faisal Shehzad’s training in Pakistan the Interior Minister said that it was his personal act adding that the terrorist wanted to declare Pakistan a failed state but they could not.

Rehman Malik further said the country’s law and order situation is much better as compared to last two year.
