Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Ashfaq Pervez Kiyani has said that Pakistan Armed Forces are fully prepared to defend the country and in every testing time the forces proved their mettle while our biggest asset is our martyrs.
Addressing a ceremony in connection with the Martyrs day at General Headquarter (GHQ) on Friday, the COAS said that the country’s sovereignty and freedom is because of these martyrs. Therefore he said that it has been decided that every year 30th of April would be observed as Martyrs day.
Martyrdom is the biggest reward for the Muslims. A soldier goes to the battlefield with motivation, offering his life to the Almighty Allah, he added.
He said that in past 63 years Pakistan Army has rendered sacrifices of 15000 soldiers including 2700 who sacrificed their lives in the war against terror. I am proud to say that armed forces are part of the nation and nation is with the army, the COAS remarked.
He said no harm could be inflicted to the Army when the entire nation is on its back and he is also thankful to the nation who always remembered their martyrs.
Pak army has always responded to the call of duty, he stated. He assured the relatives of the martyrs that Pakistan Army was with them and it is an unflinching relation.
He said that Pakistan Army has always respected the saying of Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah, “we have achieved independence, but we have to work hard to make Pakistan a sovereign country”.
He said we can defeat any enemy be it the external or the extremists and terrorists inside the country by maintaining unity in our ranks.
He said that Pakistan is not only a geographic fact but it is based on the Muslim ideology while Pakistan is ready to protect its every inch.
The ceremony held at Yadgar-e-Shuhada in GHQ was attended by families of Shuhada, Parliamentarians, Federal Ministers serving and retired officers of the Armed Forces and a large number of people from all walks of life.
The Army Chief remembered the sacrifices of Shuhada for the defence of the Country. He also acknowledged the perseverance displayed by their families and the support rendered by the nation.
The COAS alongwith relatives of Shuhada inaugurated the Shuhada Monument, laid the floral wreath and offered Fateha. A smartly turned out contingent of Pakistan Army also presented Guard of Honour.
The relatives of Shuhada also expressed their sentiments on the occasion and thanked the Army and the Nation for their support.
