It had been revealed before the Fact Finding Committee (FFC) that neither any government or military personal had issued written orders for hosing down murder site of Benazir Bhutto nor any on this count was found any where.
Rawalpindi administration decided on its own to wash the scene of assassination so that the people present in the public meeting could not come to know about it and a major disaster could be averted.
Committee sources told Online Friday no record was available with interior ministry with reference to washing the murder site. Such decision was taken by the then administration.
Former Director General (DG) Military Intelligence ( MI ) Maj Gen Nadeem Ejaz, former CPO Saud Aziz and former DCO Irfan Elahi appeared before the committee Friday.
Nadeem Ejaz was of the view that he had not issued any order for washing scene of Benazir Bhutto assassination on his own and whatever decision was taken in this respect was taken in consultation with Rawalpindi administration, provincial government and federal government.
Sources told the committee had not reached any categorical conclusion with reference to the incident of washing the murder site.
The committee was informed that the then interior ministry had also disliked the issuance of orders for washing murder scene after one and a half hour of Benazir assassination. The then care taker interior minister Hamid Nawaz contacted the then care taker chief minister of Punjab government Justice (Retd) Ejaz Nisar and it was decided that a committee with a retired judge of high court as its chairman would be constituted to probe into the matter of washing of murder scene. Two other members were also included in this committee who had sent their report to the federal government,
FFC has sought the report of the then inquiry committee and its recommendations.
The then committee report revealed that had the scene of assassination not been washed the crows could have taken away the parts of human bodies littered therein.
Former DG IM and Saud Aziz were of the view vital internal and external evidences had been obtained before washing the murder site. As Benazir Bhutto was killed inside the vehicle therefore, the necessary evidence which were available in the vehicle were also collected. The pistol which was used to fire bullets was also recovered by the police.
Sources told Maj Gen Nadeem Ejaz gave replies to the questions asked from him for over one hour and Saud Aziz also cleared his position.
