Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani and his Indian counterpart Manmohan Singh will hold a meeting here today (Thursday) on the sidelines of the SAARC conference during which the Pakistani side is expected to stress on restarting of the stalled composite dialogue process that should not be focused on just terrorism.

According to Foreign office sources, all the homework has been completed and the back door diplomacy initiated to transpire the meeting between the two leaders of the two arch rivals has been a success.

Gilani and Singh had last met for substantive discussions in Sharm-el-Sheikh in July last year. They had two brief encounters earlier this month in Washington where both the Prime Ministers were to attend the Nuclear Security Summit.

Premier Gilani would stress on restoration of composite dialogue process and matters related to the Mumbai attacks would also figure in the meeting. The PM would stress on dialogue process on all outstanding issues including the Kashmir dispute.

Sources told that meeting is expected to take place at around 1:00 pm local time.

Sources told that if the talks between Gilani and Singh are successful than both leaders would address a joint stake out otherwise they would separate press conferences. Efforts are also being made to prepare a joint statement after the meeting between the two leaders

Meanwhile Indian media quoting its government sources said that during the meeting, Singh is expected to focus on India’s “core” concern of cross-border terrorism and highlight unhappiness that Pakistan has not done enough on this front.

Singh is expected to seek an update on the investigations and trial in the Mumbai attacks case in Pakistan.

He is likely to point out that the threat of terrorism emanating from Pakistan continues to loom and Pakistan had not taken any concrete steps to eradicate this to create conditions for resumption of substantive dialogue between the two countries.

India had put the composite dialogue on hold since the Mumbai attacks and refused to resume it till Pakistan punishes all those behind the carnage.
