Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has said that constitutional amendment is a gift of the democratic era and role of all the political parties including PML (N) is commendable toward the continuity and protection of the constitution which will be written in golden words.
He said that this revolutionary measure would further improve the relations between the federation and the Provinces.
He was talking to the media-men at the residence of Member National Assembly Rana Mehmood-ul-Hassan in Multan Saturday.
The Chief Minister said that with the elimination of the all the stupidities of dictatorial regime to come to an end while it would strengthen the provincial autonomy. He said that a dictator had distorted the constitution and usurped the powers of the parliament.
He said that 18th amendment has been prepared in the light of Charter of Democracy which will strengthen the parliament and would add to the powers of the Prime Minister. The Chief
Minister said that he is not at variance with the President Asif Ali Zardari and the same thing was reminded by him during his meeting with the President following the adoption of NFC Award.
He said that he demand only the implementation of the Charter of Democracy which has been started after passage of two years.
Replying to a question regarding completion of five years tenure by the federal government, the Chief Minister said that it is its constitutional right to complete a period of five years which is also in accordance with the spirit of charter of democracy. However, the Chief Minister said that government will have to pay attention to the problems of the people and besides elimination of load-shedding, it will have to reduce the prices of electricity. He said that government should install low cost power generation plants so that electricity could be provided to the people at affordable rates. In response to another question regarding the measures taken by the provincial government for the welfare of the people, the Chief Minister said that free of cost medicines are being provided to the patients in the government hospitals besides air conditioners have been installed in the wards of the hospitals. Moreover, free of cost dialysis facility has been made available to the kidney patients at every DHQ Hospital, he added.
He said that Punjab Educational Endowment Fund has been established with billions of rupees for the education of poor girl and boy students.
He said that talented students belonging to Bahawalpur, DG Khan, Multan, Rawalpindi and other districts of the province are studying in LUMS and government will bear all their educational expenses. He said that IT labs have been setup in more than four thousand government schools at a cost of five billion rupees and Danish schools are being established with billions of rupees in far flung areas of the province.
He said that Roti is also being provided to labourers and “Haris” for two rupees. He also congratulated Rana Mehmood-ul-Hassan on the marriage of his brother.
