Reiterating his earlier stance, President Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) Qazi Anwar has said that Parliament does not have the right to appoint judges, adding that, Parliament can only do legislation but cannot change structure of the constitution.

Talking to media men outside the Supreme Court here on Wednesday, President SCBA Qazi Anwar denied giving abuses to Parliamentarians but said he was humiliated in Parliament. “I was called “mad” by Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Information Secretary in Parliament and I did not want to reply her”, he said. Answering to a question, he said, he has dubbed some Parliamentarian as smuggler.

The Parliament should be supreme and the judiciary independent, he said. The Parliament, he said, should not tread into the judiciary’s ambit and scope.

Comparing the different institutions of the state, Anwar said if the Parliament was truly supreme then why did it not try to interfere in the appointments made inside the GHQ.

We would not allow any to interfere in judiciary matter, he said.
