SC orders to send NAB chief to jail

Chief Justice of Pakistan Tuesday rejected pardon plea of Chairman National Accountability Bureau Naveed Ahsan over non implementation of the NRO verdict and ordered for sending him to jail.

Supreme Court during the hearing rejected plea of National Accountability Bureau for submitting reply about implementation of the NRO verdict in two days.

Chief Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry in his remarks said much time has been passed now the court would not grant further a moment for it.

Justice Tariq Pervez during hearing of the contempt case asked Chairman NAB Naveed Ahsan asked why the NRO verdict not yet implemented. NAB chief responded that he has been on leave since March 09. The Chief Justice retorted that the court decision was announced 80 days prior to it.

Chairman NAB informed the court that the President has indemnity. The Chief Justice said that the President has not claimed it so far.

Earlier, Chairman NAB Naveed Ahsan appeared before the court and requested for two days time to submit reply of the contempt of court notice.

The court rejected the plea and told him that he was given a day for filing the reply yesterday and said why not he should be sent to jail for non-compliance. The NAB chairman said he had misunderstood the matter and begged unconditional pardon from the court.
