Hashmat Atharzada recovered after 15 months

The officials of intelligence agencies on Tuesday said that they have recovered Hashmat Atharzada, Commercial Attache of Peshawar based Iranian Consulate safely after 15 months following successful operation.

Addressing a press conference at Iranian embassy after the recovery of Hashmat Atharzada, Commercial Attache of Peshawar based Iranian Consulate, Iranian Ambassador in Islamabad Mashaullah Shakiri Shakiri said that as a result of successful operation by Iranian intelligence officials, Hashmat has been recovered safely from the custody of his captors, adding, recovery of the Iranian consulate was the responsibility of the government of Pakistan.

However, he made it clear that Jandullah and its chief Abdul Malik Regee was not involved in the incident.

He said that the Hashmat Atharzada, Commercial Attache of Peshawar based Iranian Consulate had been kidnapped from Peshawar on November 13, 2008, which was recovered by Iranian security forces under successful strategy and now sent back to Iran.

He said that presently we cannot release more details from where he was recovered, however he said that he had been kidnapped from Peshawar and his recovery was also the responsibility of government of Pakistan but recovered by Iranian security officials.

The ambassador said that there has been contact between the intelligence officials of Iranian and Pakistani officials and Pakistanis officials extended full cooperation in this regard, adding, when he was kidnapped then Iran neither sent various delegations to Pakistan but also adopted clear stance during Zardari’s visit to Iran.

He said that the main reason of extremism in the region is the presence of foreign countries troops, while Iranian forces are playing role with responsibilities against terror in the region.

Due to this wave of extremism, he said that, Hashmat Atharzada, Commercial Attache of Peshawar based Iranian Consulate was abducted.

To a question, he said that Iran would sign the gas pipeline project with Pakistan very soon and the issue is in last stage, while Iran would help Pakistan meet its energy needs.

It may be mentioned here that Hashmat Atharzada, Commercial Attache of Peshawar based Iranian Consulate was kidnapped by some unknown persons when he was going to office from home.

They had opened firing on his vehicle and killed his driver and kidnapped him.
