The National Assembly on Friday has been informed that the number of drug addicts in the country has crossed the figure of 5 million and the country at present is facing no shortage of food.
State Minister for Anti Narcotics, Arbab Zahir in response of a call attention notice told the National Assembly said that the government is working on a new Anti Drugs Policy.
The state minister further said that the Anti Narcotics Force (ANF) is using all its resources and abilities to control the smuggling of drugs, however it is impossible to control the smuggling completely due to long Pak-Afghan border and shortage of force in ANF.
He informed the lower house that there are only 2500 officials are working in ANF, adding the Ministry of Anti Narcotics is taking all possible steps to discourage the usage of drugs.
Parliamentary Secretary for Food and Agriculture, Liaquat Ali Khan has informed the National Assembly that there is no shortage of wheat in the country and the government is considering to export the commodity.
Responding to a question on Friday, the parliamentary secretary for food and agriculture said that the country had record production of 24.03 million ton wheat, 6.9 million ton rice and 3.6 million ton corn in 2008-09.
Parliamentary Secretary, Mehreen Razzaq Bhutto has informed the National Assembly that out of 140 cases of spurious medicines, 47 cases being under investigated.
Answering another question, she told the Lower House that the registered patients of Aids in the country is 3022, adding in 2005, the number was 637.
Federal Minister for Environment, Hameed Ullah Jan Afridi has tabled “The Pakistan Trade Control of Wild Fauna and Flora Bill, 2010” in the lower house on Friday.
The bill was referred to the concerned Standing Committee for more consideration.
Federal Minister for Livestock and Dairy Development, Hamayun Aziz Kurd has informed that the government does not issue any license for the export of animals and birds as it is open.
Responding to another question, he said that the milk production for 2008-09 was 43.56 million ton which was 16 percent less as compare to country’s needs and there is no suggestion to export milk.
