The Ministry of Water and Power has admitted that the shortfall of electricity in the country has reached 4698MW, adding, power demand is 14000MW and supply is 9300MW.
In a statement issued here on Monday, the ministry’s spokesman said that presently hydal generation is 1647MW and thermal units are producing 2382MW, while IPPs producing 5274MW.
He said that Pepco was providing 680MW to KESC and added that water level in Mangla has been increased by 8 inches, which he added, would improve the hydal generation.
According to him, load shedding duration would be decreased during severe hotness with generation of rental power plants and IPPs, adding, melting of glaciers would improve water reservoirs and would increase power generation.
Situation would be improved in mid-April, he said and added that Angro Power, Saif Power Nishat Choonia, Bhakki Power, Hubco, Narowal, Liberty, Gulf Rental, Kark Rental, Reshma Rental and other IPPs would start generation this year and would add 3000MW to national grid.
