Pakistan is not safe heaven for Taliban now: Qureshi

Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi has said that Pakistan was not a safe heaven for the terrorists and due to the successful operations against them they were forced to leave.

He expressed these view while commenting on the statement of a former official of United Nations saying arrest of Taliban leader was an act of sabotaging the back door diplomacy with Taliban. The Foreign Minister said that he was unaware that why the former UN official issued this statement. He said that they had arrested Taliban leader Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar during a joint operation and he was in the list of most wanted persons.

It is pertinent to mention that during his interview with BBC, the former UN official Kai Aidi said that the arrest of Taliban leader was an act of sabotaging the back door diplomacy with Taliban. He in his statement stated that after his arrest all the back door channels of dialogue with Afghan Taliban were closed.

The Foreign Minister said that the whole international community was applauding Pakistan’s efforts in war against terror. He said they were not holding dialogue with Taliban till now however Afghan President Hamid Karzai had summoned a Grand Peace Jirga in which Pakistan had assured his full support.
