Woman awaits disappeared husband for last 16 years in IHK

In occupied Kashmir, a woman, Saja Begum has been awaiting her disappeared husband for last 16 years.

According to Kashmir media Service (KMS), Saja Begum told media men that her husband, Ghulam Hassan Sofi 46, a chemist, was arrested by the Indian troops of 3 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) from his house in Hamdan area of Islamabad on July 1, 1994 and was taken to the nearby camp at Ashmuqam for interrogation.

She said that six years after Sofi’s arrest, an Army team came to the village, and according to the villagers, the army officers got details of her husband and before leaving the team assured them that he (Sofi) would soon be with his family but he never came.

“In November 2000, Army men came to our house and asked us to sign a document that mentioned that my husband was abducted by unidentified gunmen,” Saja said. “That was out of question. I will die but never sign false documents,” she maintained.

Saja alone looks after her four children, including two daughters, besides continuing search for her missing husband with the hope that one day her husband would be with them.
