US special envoy for Afghanistan and Pakistan Richard Holbrooke has said that Pakistani Army is no longer willing to take part in the politics of the country.
In an interview to American TV, he said that the Pakistani politics is complicated and reiterated that American government wants to work with the Pakistani authorities to defeat the menace of terrorism.
Holbrooke hinted that Al-Qaeda is under great pressure after losing key members of its leadership.
He added that the Taliban are losing their ideology and acts like beheading people have reduced Taliban popularity.
He described the arrest of Mullah Baradar, an important Al-Qaeda leader, from Pakistan as a significant development.
Loss of front line leadership has put Al-Qaeda under a lot of pressure, he said.
Acknowledging the role Pakistan Army in the ongoing battle with Taliban, the US envoy said Pakistan has carried out effective actions against Taliban in Swat and South Waziristan.
He said Pakistan has shifted about 100,000 of its troops from its eastern to western borders.
“The United States is working in close coordination with Pakistan political leadership and its army in the war against terrorism,” Richard Holbrooke asserted.
He said Pakistan’s political scenario is going through complications but the overall situation is now much better than the previous year.
