In occupied Kashmir, near a dozen people were injured in violent police actions in Srinagar, Sopore and Baramulla.
People took to the streets against the atrocities and human rights violations in Sopore, Baramulla and Srinagar areas and raised anti-India and pro-liberation slogans.
The police and paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force personnel used batons and resorted to tear smoke canisters, aerial firing and rubber bullets, injuring five people at main chowk in Sopore. Two of the injured, Habiubullah Naikoo and Nasir Hussain Batoo were referred to Srinagar for treatment. Doctors who attended them confirmed that they received bullet injuries.
Locals said that troopers went berserk and beat up people indiscriminately at Batpora, Shalpora, Arampora, Main Chowk and many other areas. “They barged into residential areas and beat up the inmates. They even ransacked the household goods,” said a resident, Abdul Aziz.
Meanwhile, unidentified gunmen shot dead a Special Police Officer (SPO) at Jawahar Nagar in Srinagar. The gunmen fired from point blank range towards the SPO near Abu Bakar Masjid and fled from the spot after carrying out the attack.
